Extend stay as a visitor

Hi everybody!

I am currently in Canada as a visitor since September 20, 2013. I got married with my Canadian husband in December 14, 2013.
I will apply for Permanent Residence this February, but I am going to apply also to Extend my stay as a visitor, so I can maintain my status valid during the process wait time.

My question is: For how long can I extend my stay in Canada as a visitor? Only 6 months or can I apply to extend my stay for a year?

maximum 6 months...but u have to apply 30 days before expiry...plus valid reason for extension...

Hi,

Visitor visa is normally six month ,and it is extendable as along as you fill the renewal application prior to the expiry date.Once you do so, you are legally living in Canada even if your expiry date has passed and you have not received an answer yet,

You have up to three renewals to your visa ( 6 months * 3= 1.5 year), if your sponsor application has not finished yet, you may also be able to extend your visa again.

It is highly recommended to submit your extension application 30 days prior to the expiry date,however it is not a must.In other words, you have up to the last day of your visa to submit your application.
