Extend for common law

Hello, I have currently been here for 4 months and am looking to extend my stay. Due to problems, I am unable to sign on the lease until early May. I would like to extend my stay till may of next year, and will ask for that.
I can show I have the necessary funds to be provided for during the extra year long stay, and I will say that I would like to extend it for common law. I am from the US so I am visa exempt. One thing that worries me is the ties I have to the US are not very strong. All of my family is from the US and I'm enrolled in online college courses but that is about it. I am worried this will result in a rejection of application. Can anyone maybe say how the chances of it getting approved are? And also what things would help?

No one can tell how the chances are.

Look into how to prove common law under the province you are. Some provinces have means of proving common law that aren't leases.

They are typically approved when two people have been living together in Canada for six months and need another six months to become common law. When that's the situation - approval is almost guaranteed.

However that's not your situation. So hard to say in your case. You'll have to apply and see what happens.

And if it gets denied it makes it harder to be approved next time? Or even being let back in in that case? Also, would it be wiser to go back to the US for a few months then come back and try again or try to extend now?
