Extend current work permit: Minimum length of the contract

Hi,

I am wondering if there is any minimum length of the contract for extending current work permit. For example, could we extend only 1 month or even less than 1 month and the offer letter says that the job contract is only 1 month (or less)?

For my information, I am a postdoc at a University, so I don't need LMO.
