whoops who would have known one message is all my inbox can fit. haha..

anyway. I got my approval in principle (fAIP-first stage approval) on may 13. I still haven't received any letter that was sent to me, but I called CIC and inquired and the agent I talked to said that I got the AIP and that they would be requiring me to submit my medicals asap.

I am not sure about the interview. From what I've been informed, if they would be requiring an interview at this stage then they would be forwarding your file to the local office and they wont be giving you the first stage approval just yet. But I also read somewhere that any time they would be in doubt of the relationship they can ask for an interview at any point of the process (possible but not common after AIP has been given).

If you checked your spouse's Ecas and it has just started processing, then i think its because she is being evaluated if the is an eligible sponsor. I never checked my husband's ecas but he was just mailed a letter stating that he's eligible to sponsor.

ok i kinda understand now. i hope everything goes well with yours. did you apply for open work permit? i'm contemplating if i should wait or if i should go on renewing my open work permit with the refugee? did you dropped the refugee status? it's a relief cause they said there might be more scrutiny cause of the application for refugee. when did you send your application?

I sent my application Nov 9 2008.
No, I didn't apply for my work permit yet. Im still trying to fix my medicals, police clearance and Ohip request.
My family's refugee status was denied before my husband sponsored me.
Did you get any replies yet?

nope not yet. i haven't recieved anything. mine was recieved november 3rd. i'm still worried if there would be more scrutinizing because of the refugee. if you don't mind telling me what you've sent as proof of your relationship. we've been living together and everything is legit but i'm still worried about outcome. maybe because we're young. i'm 26 and my wife's 24. sorry but i'm just anxious about it. did you pay the whole fee already?

Well, I'm 22 and my fiancee is 21. (I doubt him being one year younger than me will matter!) We were living together for two years, I'm not terribly worried. I think all that matters is you're over 18 and send the right documents and proof.

We're really young too (21) so it cant be the age.
They're probably processing it right now...

We sent phone bills (we're in the same plan), letters from our church pastors (we're in the same youth group growing up), pictures from our teens until marriage, rent lease, insurance and bank account statements(we have a lot of transanctions in between our accounts )

Wow, you're lucky for that!!! All we have are pictures, text messages, letters of support from family and friends... yeah. Two years of living together and that's it. No e-mails... I have some phone records. But nothing was ever in HIS name. HE has no bills, and I don't either. And on top of him having no status in the US where we lived this whole time, he was using his mother's maiden name (his 2nd middle name) rather than his last name. I might be in a hot mess myself, which is really frusterating, because we HAVE a genuine relationship!!!! Age is the least of my worries, ahah!

hi nyssa,

oh were you guys married? cause we are married. we didn't have a lot of proof aside pictures of a small wedding. car insurance under our name. we are living together and most of the bills are under her mom's cause we are living in the same apartment. i just sent follow up proof like same address in our driver's license, income tax showing name of spouse. we met here in canada so our relationship is basically from here. when did you send your application? does it matter if you change your name? cause she hasn't adopted my last name. she kinda don't want to.

We should be married this October, so we'll have lots of wedding proof too. Never had any bills together, and won't while this is being processed because he's in Canada and I'm in the US. We both work food jobs, so I don't see any real benefits or anything or insurance for us to put our names on! And of course, he has no income tax yet and never has. So ours is going to take lots of explanation.

Follow-ups? The more proof you have come in, you just keep sending in? Seems like a really good idea. Not changing your last name isn't an issue. I read up on that quite a bit. I'm not sure if I'm going to yet or not... it seems really complicated!!! What would you even put on the forms? Your new last name? Hmm.

nyssa.

u shouldn't put your new last name until you had legally changed all your documents and IDs to avoid confusion. :)
