Hi Everyone,

I have already read through other threads in the forum about express entry PR living in Quebec but my situation is a bit different. Let me explain.

I used to live in USA and received my PR through express entry in November 2017. I completed my landing in March 2018. My USA employer wanted to keep me working (for a period of one year to transfer knowledge) from CANADA through their Canadian branch which happens to be in Montreal, Quebec. I received the offer letter 2 days before leaving USA which is in February. As soon as I landed in Ontario, I drove to Montreal and started working.

According to the Express Entry requirements, you should plan to live outside Quebec. However, my plan was not to live in Quebec (I don't even speak french) but in Ontario. Am I breaking any law here as the Canadian Charter rights allows us to move and settle any where in CANADA.

I have read answers that I should not have intent to live in Quebec when landing. However, Is it the intent when applying PR or when landing? I am planning on moving to Ontario as soon as my one year is up. Will I have any problems when applying for Citizenship.

If someone with good immigration knowledge can reply to my question, I would be really grateful.

you did not willfully violate any terms of PR. living in quebec was based on your employer having a branch there. you should be fine. you can explain the circumstances while applying for citizenship.

The short answer, if you immigrated as a FSW, and after landing, you can live anywhere in Canada, including Quebec. That is your constitutional right.

After I landed as a PR (FSW), I moved to Montreal for 2 years. No issue and I had the Quebec medical card, and also took benefit of the QC student rebates.
