Express entry inside canada steps

Hi every one,
i am working in canada now and my permit expires on Jan 8th 2018(in couple of weeks). Also i am in the process of Express entry.
I got en email asking for my passport 3 weeks ago with pictures.
i send them and have been received by immigiration. today i got another email which says my CIC application got updated and it changes to "approved" but no NEW message in my CIC inbox.
i am getting concern if i dont get my passport before jan 8th, should i apply for bridge work permit now?
what is next after receiving my passport? just drive to border?

Usually you would get your passport back in a week or so once the application is approved but given it's now holiday season it's hard to tell.

You should have applied for bridge permit already. Why did you wait? If you don't land by Jan 8 you will be out of status in Canada.

If I were you I'd get all the documents ready for bridge permit application, if you get passport back before 8th, drive to border and flagpole right away. If you still don't get it back on 6th or 7th, submit the application for bridge permit so you won't be out of status. Withdraw the application after you complete your landing
