Hello. I have a question about ECA for EE. I posted in a different area of the forum earlier but thought I might get more thoughts if I tried here as well.
I am a nurse practitioner in the U.S. with a doctorate from East Carolina University. This type of degree program is somewhat new here and allows a practicing NP with a bachelors degree (which I obtained from a different university) to go directly from bachelors to doctorate, bypassing the master's degree step. It is a terminal degree for an NP resulting in a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP).
I went through WES for the ECA, which I thought would give me information to complete the education level portion of EE. They received my transcript and requested no further information. When I got my results from WES, my equivalency statement said, "Completion of advanced study and training in nursing." It provided no further information about degree equivalence so apparently, it is of no use for the EE process. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding how to proceed? I was mentally prepared for the possibility that I would not get the level of CRS points accorded to other doctoral degrees because (a) it's not a PhD and (b) it's a fairly new type of program here.
Among options I am considering are:
1) Contacting WES and attempting to get them to take a more definitive position on the degree equivalence
2) Trying a different ECA provider to see if they evaluate it in a form that is more conducive to the EE requirements
3) Having WES or other service simply evaluate my bachelors degree (which would hurt in terms of CRS points)
Thank you for any suggestions provided.
