Hi everyone,
I'm Canadian and my partner is Australian. We lived together overseas in Sydney for over a year, so we thought we'd be considered common law and put that as his marital status on his Express Entry EOI.
He's just received an ITA, and we're realizing now that we don't have much proof of our relationship other than some money transfers between our individual bank accounts and the same address on individual documents. We never had a lease together as I joined him a few years after he had signed the lease. We can't even complete the Statutory Declaration of Common Law Union, as I had to come back to my job in Canada and he stayed back until he received his ITA...
Can we change his status to single at this point without negatively impacting his application? Given that I'm not immigrating with him, and he didn't get points for being in a common law relationship with me to get into the pool or receive his ITA?
Thank you!
