Hi,

I have an offer as an independent professional under CETA for 2 years from a Canadian company. I am also in the express entry pool with a CRS of 422 with limited options to further increase the score.
If I accept the offer I should be granted an LMIA exempt work permit valid for 1 year with the possibility of extension. I have the following questions :

1) How long will the WP application last for CETA independent professionals (I will apply from Canada)?

2) Does the year spent working as a contractor for a Canadian company counts as Canadian work experience in the CRS and I can get the 35 additional points?

3) After the first year, a written offer from the same employer counts as a valid job offer in the pool (if my work permit is extended of course)?

Thank you.

Nopes, CETA is more restrictive than NAFTA

Unlike NAFTA and other FTAs, CETA Contractual Service Suppliers and Independent Professionals cannot be employed by the Canadian company contracting for their service. Their services must be provided under contract with the Canadian company either through their European employer, or, in the case of Independent Professionals, as a self-employed person. CETA Professional work permits are limited to a maximum cumulative period of 12-months in any 24-month period.

It should be noted that as CETA Professionals cannot be employed by the Canadian company contracting for their service, they are unlikely to be eligible for points under Express Entry for having a qualifying offer of employment.
