I am a Jan AOR (CEC) Candidate (Medicals passed in Feb and Schedule A Submitted in Feb ). My Closed work permit expires in June and my wife has to undergo a treatment in August at present, she is in open work permit. We are looking for experienced persons advise in restoring our status. My employer is ready to renew my closed work permit however I read somewhere that I am eligible only for Bridge work permit while my PR is in progress. Moreover, I have no idea about whether my wife will get an OPEN work permit and primarily OHIP - Health Card If i decided to opt for bridge work permit as it is very important for her treatment. Since I don't have any positive updates on my PR I would rather want to renew my closed work permit as I don't want to leave the country even if my PR is delayed / rejected. Can someone please advise to take correct decision on the renewal?

You certainly can apply BOWP along with you wife while PR application being processed. In the mean time you can use Acknowlegement of receipt of BOWP for OHIP and driver license extension before you get result of BOWP or PR.
I don't think you can go only for BOWP, you can apply for normal work permit extension as well.
I have the same scenario, my AOR is dec, work permit will expire on 25 jun. My employer recently applied for my extension. My employer's lawyer know i have applied for PR, I don't think there is any issue.
Just want to add if your extension got rejected, then you have to go back.

Based on your inputs, I assume that I shall proceed with BOWP or NORMAL Work permit extension but I would choose to go with normal work permit extension thru my employer. No, just in PRD document I mentioned my Express entry profile number. I believe that is just because if I get PR before WP completion then they will cancel my WP application. I think you can go for GCMS notes, it will give you idea about your application. I would suggest you to let your employer file your WP first then go for GCMS notes that is only because sometimes after new application your details can get updated (like your email id, contact details etc.) with lawyer's details. You can verify that in your GCMS notes. Hope this helps

I read that in order to apply for BOWP we must have a AOR (acknowledgement of receipt) which clearly indicates that the submitted application has passed a completeness check. It turns out that the AOR pdf letter we get immediately after the application submission is not the "AOR" CIC is looking for in order to issue BOWP.
