Hello,

My husband and I hold Indian citizenship but reside in New Zealand on Permanent Resident visas. We are keen to explore the Express Entry option but are wondering which of the two options would be more suitable for us to immigrate to Canada:

(a) Apply in the next 2-3 years as NZ citizens or

(b) Immediately apply for Express Entry category as Permanent Residents of NZ

What are the benefits (if any) between option (a) and (b)? Does the assessment criteria differ if you are a Commonwealth country citizen?

There are zero visible advantages of applying under EE as citizens of NZ (as it stands today). It might change 2-3 years down the line but I don't imagine that the system will ever award points to applicants for having a certain nationality. Applying 2-3 years later would lead you to have lesser points on age though so, if you are serious about immigrating to Canada, earlier the better.

Also, India is a Commonwealth country herself so you are already a Commonwealth country citizen. ;)
