Hi there

Does anyone know how much time you get to move to Canada once the visa gets approved?

We are applying now for the Visa. If it takes 11 months we would be ready to leave right away after getting approved. However if the process wouldn't take that long we probably would prefer to stay here a bit longer and leave by the end of the year. Can you extend the deadline for picking up a visa? Or just fly into Canada to pick it up? What are the options?

Thank you

You don't pick up a visa in Canada. If approved, the visa is stamped in your passport by the embassy processing your application for permanent residence. The visa will have an expiry date on it that will coincide with the date your medical expires (1 year). You must land in Canada by that date to become a PR.

You do have another option:

you can pick up the visa, go to canada, LAND and then come back to your contry. That way you don't get stuck to the immigrant visa expiry date.

You just have to wait for your PR card arrive by mail before leaving Canada, so you can cross the border on your way in, at the end of the year.
