Expiring work permit while waiting for PR result.

Does anybody knows if we need to renew our permits before it expires this coming january 2015 and we are waiting for the PR results. But my husband doesn't have a new LMIA from his employer. and do we still need the new LMIA to apply for new permits? Thank you. Hope someone could help us here.

if you are in quebec and have CSQ you can renew without LMO, in federal if you have AOR you can have open work permit,
