Expired WP, what will happen to PR application

Hello all,

My work permit is set to expire soon and I may not be able to renew it. My PR application under PNP is being processed.

If my work permit expires and i have to leave the Canada. What will happen to my PR application? I understand that I would have to inform CIC but will they then withdraw/reject my application?

Hi there.

When did you apply for PR? and under what category PNP I assume? if so you can extend your work permit with the PNP support letter.

Also if your PR is in process you can apply for bridging open work permit assuming you have received an AOR and file number.

at last if you leave Canada your PR application is not affected at all. you just need to change your address and let them know that you are not in Canada.

Thank you for your reply.

I applied under BC PNP in March.

I am having trouble extending my work permit as the new rules require my employer to sign a form and pay the compliance fee.
My WP expires in June and by then I don't think I will have received my AOR.

Good to know that my PR application will be okay.

They haven't decided on a policy with regards to the new rule. I work for a large corp so it affects quite a few people. Would have just been easier if I worked for a small corp.
