I am currently in Brisbane visiting family. I reside in Canada and have permanent residency status. I realized my PR card expires two days prior to my scheduled flight back to Calgary. I don't have enough time to apply for a permanent resident travel document prior to be returning. Just wondering if they would let me back in to Canada if my card expired only 2 days prior as we have met all the permanent residency requirements. Should I change my flight and return prior to the expiry date? Should I cross the border in the States?

If your PR card has expired, the airline won't let you board the flight back to Canada. You need a valid PR card to board the plane.

Your choices are to either change your flight and return to Canada before the expiry date of your PR card - or to fly to the US and re-enter Canada through a land border.
