Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to confirm a certain option that I heard from an ex immigration employee but am unable to confirm it because I don't see it anywhere. Please help with any insight anyone might have.

I was working with a Post Graduate Work Permit (June 2009-May 2012). I applied for immigration Oct 2011, was rejected in may 2012. I re-applied in June 2012 and am waiting for the response. In the mean time I had to stop working in May 2012 and go into status as a visitor (expiring December 2012 as this status as a visitor was based on the initial PR application).

Question: Can I re-apply to extend my status as a visitor based on my 2nd PR application if I have to as a last resort (will apply by early November)? Are they likely to give this again based on the 2nd PR application? Will I have to prove what I've been doing all this time? (just looking for jobs)

I have been job hunting like a dog, have had interviews but upon mentioning work permit/LMO I don't hear back. One day while visiting an agency I met with a lady who worked at immigration many many years ago. She said that instead of looking for a job with an LMO I should try to call CIC and ask them for a temporary work permit until I get my PR. Because it doesn't make sense to spend 3-4 months getting an lmo when i might get my PR in that time as well. I called CIC they said I had tp wait for my PR to be able to work. However that lady had said I would have to call many times until I find the person who knows how to help me.

I need a job coz I have to be able to feed myself and have a roof over my head. :(

Many times when I've mentioned I'm waiting for my PR to a potential employer, they turn it into how they will consider me once I have my PR. :'(
I did a normal degree here and worked in acct and finance so although I'm not over qualified, I'm not under qualified either. Why is this LMO such a problem :(

Question : If I have my AOR (expected by mid September) is there any way or any criteria under which I can work temporarily even until I get my PR?

Any insight would be really helpful. Thank you in advance

On what basis did you apply for PR? Through which program/stream?

Then unfortunately you do not qualify for a temporary work permit based on the fact that you've applied for PR through CEC. Unfortunately the retired immigration officer gave you bad information (maybe this used to be the case but it isn't anymore).

LMOs are difficult to obtain because most employers aren't willing to go through the trouble of applying for one. In order to be approved, you must prove that you advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian to hire for the role - and that's why you have to hire a foreign worker.
