What if we are not yet ready to move to Canada after PR is offered to my wife? Will they eventually say the offer is no longer valid? I just started a decent job here in Mexico and I am getting good experience, so maybe 1 to 1.5 years later we still want to stay for the job? Obviously we are not going to miss that opportunity but I might need to stick around for a while at my job.

You generally have to land within one year of your last medical date.

Your wife could land without you though, if she's the only one getting PR (unless there's a Condition 51 I'd assume).

Your best bet would probably be for her to make the trip up, land, and then come back to Mexico. To keep PR status you only need to be in Canada for two out of every five years, so staying in Mexico for an extra year shouldn't be an issue.

A senior member hopefully can confirm/correct this.

You can land by the earliest of expiry date of your medical or your passport. If you are not yet ready to move to Canada, you can do as many others did, come in to Canada, do your landing and become PR, provide an address in Canada to which your PR card can be shipped and then leave to finalize the rest of the stuff you need for final moving.

If you are a Canadian citizen sponsoring your wife for PR and you are not yet ready to make the move to Canada then I would suggest you wait to file a sponsorship package for her.

If you are not ready to move to Canada immediately, they can/will deny her application based on that fact and tell you to file another when you are more prepared to move back. You must show CIC that you have set the ball in motion for a return to Canada for them to approve her PR application.

If she is approved and flies to Canada to land as a PR and has no intention of actually living here, there are cases where CBSA has refused to land the incoming PR and forwarded the information to CIC in regards to why they refused entry and landing, because the Canadian spouse was not intending to return to live immediately as well due to either education or working conditions in another country.

Check out all the avenues before you spend your money only to find out you'll have to spend it again later.

Alright, thanks everyone for the advice! Hopefully our approval doesn't take so long.
