Experts advice and direction appreciated regarding correct NOC code

Dear Sir/ Madam,


I am a software tester and I urgently need a reply from the experts regarding the correct NOC code for canadian experience class application to be put in my scheduled 8 form.

My IELTS score overall 6.0
L 5.5, R 5.5, W 6.0, S 6.5

I have my current work permits with following NOC

1) NOC 9990.2 (Embedded sys software designer) from Sept 2009 to dec 2010
2) NOC 9990.2 (Embedded sys software designer) from Jan 2011 to Mar 2011
3) NOC 9990.2 (Embedded sys software designer) from June 2011 to Oct 2011
4) NOC 9990.2 (Embedded sys software designer) from Oct 2011 to Sept 2012

I have completely confused with NOC code to write in my schedule 8, CEC PR application whether I can put 2173 or 2283.

Appreciate your expert advice on this.

use NOC 2173 but make sure ur duties match with the NOC

Ur IELTS CLB score is 6, 6, 7 & 8
Not sure whether they will interpret one as 7 - eligibility is 6,7,7 & 8 or 7 and above for all the 4 in CLB

Only you can make that decision - look at your main duties and responsibilities and figure out if they are more consistent with NOC code 2173 or 2283.

If 2283 is a better match, you may use it and your IELTS score qualify. On the otherhand, if 2173 is the better fit, then you have to retake the test.

Note that if you choose the wrong code, you may be rejected.

Can anyone please suggest what will be current occupation and intended occupation is that have to linked with schedule 8 form, I was thinking to write that in generic - Software Engineer will that be any issue ??

If 2283 is a better match, you may use it and your IELTS score qualify. On the otherhand, if 2173 is the better fit, then you have to retake the test.

I fully agree with SenoritaBella on this - note that CIC is aware that some people try to "downgrade" their NOC if their IELTS score isn't high enough for a Skill Level O or A position - people have been rejected for this (CIC canl re-evaluate the NOC to a higher level, and if the IELTS isn't sufficient, then...) If your job description better matches 2173, then you really do need to try to get a higher IELTS score...

I don' t know your job, only you do. You will have to decide which NOC code is the best match.

I am a software tester, my roles and responsibilities as follows:

1) Writing test plans,
2) executing test cases, test scenarios etc.
3) verify test artifacts
4) Verify system tests, applications test to verify software is build right

Please let me know what NOC suites either 2173 or 2283 ??

looks like 2283 to me, but I'm not in your field, someone else with expertise would be better placed to say -

I'm also not sure if or how closely 2283 is related to 2173 (given you were approved for 990.2/2173 on your work permit). If you could argue that they are similar, I would not worry about what's on your work permit, and go with the one that best matches your actual job duties (those that your employer will put into writing).

If you are that kind of software tester than you are definitely not 2173. Software testing engineers under 2173 need to write code themselves. If you don't write any code, if you do blackbox testing rather than white box testing, you should be deciding between 2171 and 2283.

If you analyse the requirement and write test plans... I would say they may think you are a Quality Assurance Analyst under 2171. I feel 2283 is more involved in execution of the test plans only, not too much analysis of the software system.
