Experience/Referrence Letter/Payslips for FSW1 Category

Can any anyone let me know what does reference letters mean??

I have my employers appoinment and relieving letters which explain my duties etc.I have my promotion letters too.

It's very hard to get a reference letter from your employers(old employers may not give you that and you would not want to divulge your immigration objective to existing employer)

Not only this,you cannot have payslips for your job in which you worked 10 years back

Please help and advise as to how each one of you is handling this kind of situation.
