I have been working in Canada for the same company for over a year, and currently have a 3 year work permit. However, my current contract is ending March 17. I have begun the new online application process, although it is not completed and submitted just yet because of many of the documentation requirements.

My wife, a Canadian citizen, and I were married this past weekend, and we do have a child on the way. I also have a child from a previous marriage that lives in the states, with which I have visitation rights for the Summer months, and other holidays throughout the year.

I know that I can only work for the company that my current work permit is associated with, as it is not an "Open" work permit. The problem is that the project I am currently working on is coming to an end, and at this time, they don't have another project for me to go on to... Something in the future will require my skillets, but just not at this particular moment. Obviously this puts me in a most difficult situation.

Any advice on this would be helpful, as this process is overly complicated. Considering my situation, I am hoping to understand which direction to take that would be most beneficial to my family without having to leave the country in the mean time.

Thanks,
3DGuy

That's horrible. What you can do is apply for spousal sponsor? Or find another job that will give u an LMIA asap? I don't know how else to help you. :(

Thank you. I have read about this, and although it is a pilot program, it seems promising. The tricky part for me is that I am schedule to travel to the states in both April and early June. In June, my child from the states is supposed to travel back with me for the Summer to visit with us here. I'm not sure the application process will allow me to travel outside Canada unless I can get the "URGENT" processing. All of this seems so precarious at this point, and is still confusing as to which is the proper path.
