Can Someone be eligible under CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS if he/she have gained an experience on Off campus for 2 months but at that time , he/she was NO MORE a FULL TIME STUDENT. I.e he/she had applied for a post grad Work Permit and have been waiting for it.

Please reply if someone who have applied and is in the same boat.

Work experience is reportedly not considered for PR under the Canadian Experience Class if you were working on a student work permit (co-op, off-campus or on-campus).

That's what I have found, but hopefully someone with more experience can give you some advice.

Hi,
if you were not a full time student at that time and you already applied for PGWP (obviously finished studies and waited for your convocation) your 2 months experience will be counted towards your 1 year experience.

Need to wait for senior replies but i think that CEC will count the experience from the date on your work permit........seen cases when VO didnot consider experience as the student finished all studies but waited for PGWP and started working, that work was not considered as he was working on OCWP but not PGWP......so experience will count from issuance date on your PGWP IMO....

I believe as long as you have started work on OCWP after the confirmation of graduation letter was issued to you, CEC will consider the work experience under CEC class. I have done the same actually and hv a couple of weeks of experience on OCWP. Hopefully you should be good :)

Hi,
you're right, it used to be like that but these things have been changed. I could see the CIC recognize such experience now. As 'mesumrizvi' quoted "as long as you have started work on OCWP after the confirmation of graduation letter was issued to you (which you need in order to apply for the BOWP), CEC will consider the work experience under CEC class".

CIC clearly states that any work experience gained on a student work permit DOES NOT count towards CEC.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=377&t=6

You are not eligible for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class if you gained your work experience:

- without the proper authorization (for example, illegally, working without a visa),
- in a job not classified as skill type 0, or skill level A or B according to the National Occupational Classification,
- while you were self-employed, or
- while on a student work permit (co-op, off-campus, or on-campus).

You're right, i know all of these but I've seen here on this forum that the CIC started to accept the work experience gained on OCWP while waiting for the PGWP.

They always did, but you had to prove that you were no longer a student for that experience to count. You couldn't just assume that the VO would figure it out.

But, you cannot assume that the old rules are still in effect under express entry. The link that canuck_in_uk was updated on
2015-02-09. It's not entirely clear if the rules have changed, or it's just another case of CIC overgeneralizing a rule and confusing the heck out of people (this particular rule has been confusing people for many years).

As before, the advice is - to be on the safe side, work for at least one year on your PGWP before applying. For those who have no choice, it may be worth the gamble to apply using that 1-2 months of experience.
