Hi all,

I'm having trouble with the ETA application. A bit of background:

- Hold a Philippine passport valid until 2028
- Hold an active US visa valid until 2026, but it was in an old (Expired) passport that I still have.
- Rejection letter tells me that "...you did not hold a valid nonimmigrant US visa..."
- I've never travelled to Canada, but will seek to travel there by air.

The ETA application:
- I don't specifiy a specific date of departure, but this can be arranged.
- I'm sure I enter the visa number on the lower right portion of the visa.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am a Philippine passport holder too, applied last July 2023, I have a valid US visa until 2026 and I got a previously expired 2 temporary resident visa (TRV) from Canada for the past 10 years. My eTA was approved in just a few hours. Did you double-check your US visa number in red color, lower right portion before you submitted it?

100%, i have triple checked my US visa number as per the instructions during the application. No TRV for me, I do have a valid US nonimmigrant visa.

Do you think having a specific date of departure has bearing on the application?

I don’t think so, I selected a “NO” answer in the question, “Do you know when you will travel to canada?

Would you that you may faced extra scrutiny if you try to visit Canada based on your previous refusals. Getting a TRV doesn’t guarantee entry into Canada so would be prepared to address previous reasons for refusal.
