Hello, I'm a Romanian citizen, and I was supposed to be flying to Toronto, Canada yesterday. I chose to fly from Budapest, Hungary instead of Bucharest, Romania, as they had cheaper, direct flights.

Once I got to the gate, I was asked many questions, ones about me and my boyfriend (who I was visiting), and I answered everything fully honestly, then she got in contact with a Canadian officer, who cancelled my eTA, and refused to let me board the plane, and kicked me out of the airport.

The only reason she said is that I did not proof I will come back, however I really do not understand that, HOW could I have proven it?

Me and my boyfriend took a guess and thought that they perhaps cancelled my eTA because I couldn't provide an address of where I'd be staying in Canada, which happened because my boyfriend (who manages the whole trip) forgot to send me that, and he was stuck in a flight at the moment they asked me, so he was unable to give it to me in time.

I did not want to let this mess up my plans, and I really want to travel, so I went and applied for another eTA, and plan to try once again, but this time I will have supporting documents, I will bring university enrollment certificate in Romania, invitation letter, trip itinerary, and of course an address.

Why do you think happened, and will it happen again? Could it be because they didn't like the fact that I'm visiting my American boyfriend in Canada? Also, could the eTA be refused this time? I got an email saying it's under process, and I'll get an answer in 72 hours.

It sounds like there were concerns about your lack of ties to your home country and/or the length of your trip to Canada. The fact you didn't have an address of where you'll be staying in Canada was most likely a contributing factor. It's pretty unusual not to know where you will be staying - so this probably raised red flags and created additional concerns.

Proof you will return to your home country include things such as: proof of employment and a letter confirming a short vacation leave, proof of property ownership / rental, proof of funds / assets, proof you are currently enrolled in college/university. Ideally you should be able to show several of these things. Note that a university enrollment certificate probably isn't enough to show education as a tie - you will also want to show that you have fully paid the tuition fees for the current semester and are actively enrolled and attending school.
