Hey there! I am from Germany, am 22 and I have the following issue. I want to travel to Canada on September 7th, had an eTA back in 2019 and traveled to Canada from feb 15-24 2019, and then with the extended family member extension feb 15-July 29th 2021. everything worked and I never had a issue with police or anything. During this time I moved together with my partner, so both of our names are under the rental contract so she can sponsor me after 1 year. All of this has been stated in my authorization coming to Canada and got approved. Now, I wanted to book my flight to Canada on September 7th on august 13, where it tells me my eTA is still approved, valid until 2024, but below it says I am no longer valid to hold an eta. I should reapply with the reasons of cancellation. I never received any email stating why or even that my eta got canceled. I contacted IRCC via email, requested the webform and also contacted that embassy in Vienna who Said I need to contact IRCC. I am very confused if my eTA is now canceled or not, because it still says „approved“ on status. I talked to border services Canada and they said it’s very weird but cannot give me an answer as they can’t look my documents up. I have never been rejected from any other country aswell, clean record My reapplication is pending since 3 weeks too, with no response whatsoever.
Hopefully u have any advice as I want to see and be with my partner again.

hopefully you guys have some ideas on what I could do; I cannot call IRCC as I am in Germany and tried everything, even calling via Skype over VPN, no chance.

Can you clarify the dates you were in Canada? That part isn't clear.

Were you in Canada from Feb 15 2019 to Feb 24 2019, returned home, and then returned Feb 15 2021 to July 29 2021?

Or were you in Canada Feb 15 2019 to July 29 2021 straight (i.e. over two years)?

Yea, so I was in Canada from Feb 15th - Feb 24th in 2019, went back home and stayed with the extended family member sponsorship and eTA from Feb 15-29th of July in Canada. So no overstay from my eTA.

I don't understand what you mean by the "extended family member sponsorship". Your partner can't sponsor you until you are either married or common law. Common law means that you have lived together continuously (without breaks) for at least one full year.

Do you mean the extended family member travel authorization due to COVID?

Anyway, I don't think there's anything you can do but wait for your re-application to be processed and approved. Hopefully that happens soon.

Note that in order for you and your partner to become common law and for you to qualify for PR sponsorship, you'll need to live together for a full year continuously once you return to Canada. The previous period you lived together this year won't count since you've been separated since July.

Thats interesting but yea the one with Covid. How am I supposed to live with my partner for 1 year tho, if I can only stay 6 months at max? I’ve read somewhere on here who had a similar issue, and he could enter Canada as the eTA still says approved on the status. And as I did not get an email with even the reasons it makes it quite weird. But I don’t really want to risk going to book a flight etc for a 50% chance of not being able to enter. Would it work if I call an airline and they check the eligibility in their system of my eTA?

It's extremely easy to stay more than six months. You would simply apply to extend your stay from within Canada. People do this all of the time to achieve the 1 year of continuous cohabitation to become common law.

I don't know if the airline can tell you over the phone if your eTA is valid. You can certainly try. Good luck!
