Eta Application "Have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada?

Hello,

I am from Germany and I would like to visit Canada for 3 weeks in August. Therefore I have to apply for an eTA.

One question asks "Have you previously applied to enter or remain in Canada?". I studied in Canada from September 2013 until December 2013 (4 months) but I did not apply for a study permit because it was not neccessary as a student from Germany and because I only stayed for 4 months.

Do I have to answer this question with yes or no?

answer is no given assume you were a visitor from a visa exempt country and the course was less than 6 months so you did not need to specifically seek a study permit so answer no.

Note there is a leniency period for the ETA until end Sept so can still board a flight without until then but most people apply anyway as is only 7 dollars for 5 years a bargain compared to us ESTA. See here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
