First of all, Thank You for the immense help you give us Canada Hopefuls!! It's much appreciated :) .

My questions/doubts are as follows and your feedback would be super helpful:

I am planning to fly to Canada from India on the 19th of March 2021, I have a valid COPR and an Authorization Letter issued to me (re-unification of extended family members). I am the primary applicant and I have 2 secondary applicants my Son and my Spouse - both have a valid COPR as well.

Q1. Can they fly at a later date? Will it be a problem if they don't make the first entry in Canada with ME?

Q2. Regarding the new travel regulations, I understand I have to quarantine for the first 3 days at a govt. authorized hotel. Post this period, and if I get a negative Covid result, can I proceed to do the remaining 14 days quarantine with my Sibling?

Hoping to hear from you soon... Thanks Again!

1. YEs, since you are the PR, you can land in Canada, and your spouse and son can land later. The PR has to land first.

2. YEs. You can go to any place where you can quarantine. The requirements are listed at See https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/isolation

You'll need to confirm you have a suitable place to quarantine where you:

  • stay for 14 days or possibly longer
  • have access to the necessities of life, including water, food, medication and heat without leaving quarantine
  • can avoid contact with others who did not travel with you
  • have no guests
You cannot quarantine in a place where you will have contact with people who:

  • are 65 years or older
  • have underlying medical conditions
  • have compromised immune systems
  • work or assist in a facility, home or workplace that includes at-risk populations, including:
    • Nurses, doctors, other healthcare professionals, personal support workers, social workers
    • First responders, such as paramedics
    • Cleaning and maintenance staff, receptionists and administrative staff, food services staff, volunteers, essential visitors to those living in long-term care facilities
You may only quarantine with people in these situations if:

  • they consent to the quarantine or are the parent or minor in a parent-minor relationship
  • you complete a form with a government representative at the port of entry explaining the consent and receive authorization to proceed
In these limited circumstances, a government representative will confirm consent.

Many travellers will be able to quarantine at home or at their Canadian destination.

Some travellers may be unable to quarantine at home or their final destination. In these cases, travellers are expected to make alternative arrangements for their return to Canada. Although alternative accommodations (e.g. with family or friends, or paid accommodation) may be suitable, the Government of Canada does not reimburse for expenses incurred for accommodations, including hotels, RV rentals and trailer park or campground fees.

You cannot quarantine in group living environments

Some examples include:

  • a shelter, group home, group residence, hostels, industrial camps, construction trailers or other group setting
  • a student residence (unless you’ve received prior authorization)
  • a small apartment you share with others
  • a shared household with a large family or families or many people
  • shared living spaces with housemates who haven’t travelled with you that you cannot avoid interacting with

For a full list of examples, visit the Congregate living settings section.

But you mentioned something about consent....should be in writing or I just present a case to the officer??

Also, can you please specify the documents my spouse should carry.... Eg. COPR, passport, list of goods etc...

Consent, not sure what you mean? Can you please elaborate.

When your spouse lands, they should have the COPR, passports, COVID test results if applicable, the goods to follow list should ideally be carried by the primary applicant, PoF.

Hi Again.......

By consent I mean, do I need my brother's consent (in writing) that he is OK with me quarantining at his house? He has a basement where I will be living separately.

Also, MOST Important query - Once I enter and become PR, my spouse and Son will become Immediate Family members (with valid COPR's)... What will be process for them ;
a. will I need travel authorization letter for them as well?
b. Who will apply for Al for them, me (as my email is registered with IRCC) or my husband who will be the applicant? Also, what about my Minor Son -who will apply for Him?
c. Do we need any form such as imm0006 for them too?
d. how soon can i apply for their AL - do I wait for the PR card or landing docs will be sufficient?

Please help!!!

There is no consent requirement as such as long as you can show that you have a place. Since you do not have a lease or any confirmation of where you will stay in your name, getting a letter from your brother would be advisable.

a. If you are a PR, your immediate family members do not need Al. see https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/immediate-family.html

b. see a.

c. No.

The travel exemption for extended family members is not a way for all family members with COPR to travel. It is only intended for the extended family member, and not the extended family member's immediate family.

If your husbands wants to travel, he can apply for a TRV, but he cannot land until the Primary applicant lands first.

Dear, I’m also extended family member and i received my written authorization. I plan to travel in March. Will it be fine if I stay at that gov approved hotel in Montreal for the three days and fly to my final destination to complete the rest of the period? In the form IMM0006 i mentioned that I would be staying at my brother’s but with the new gov hotels’ regulations, I would rather spend the remainder in my AB.

YEs, you can.

See https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/latest-travel-health-advice/mandatory-hotel-stay-air-travellers.html

Once you've received your negative test, even if it's before the end of your 3-night stay, you can call the hotel reception and notify them of your check-out.

If you have an approved quarantine plan, you'll be allowed to complete the remainder of your 14-day quarantine at your planned location.

Got it, thanks. I’m concerned about the officer asking me why is the AB quarantine address different from the one in the IMM0006 form. Shall I just say that my quarantine place has changed with the new restrictions?

If I am to travel with my AL as COPR holder (with COPR dated Nov 2020) will my PR be validated and will I get my PR card????
