Hello, I am new to the forum and appreciate any input someone might have. I am in need of an answer to whether I (US citizen) can enter canada to do work permit exempt work while I have a work permit being processed. The longer version is below
I am a PhD student in France (and US passport holder). Some months ago I arranged to do work in the summer with a professor in Canada and received an invitation letter as a self-funded researcher (work permit exempt). Last week I have received an award to help fund my visit, but this requires me to obtain a LIMA-exception work permit which I right away applied for. Unfortunately my flight is in just a week and I have no idea if the permit will be approved by then. My question is if I can still enter on my original self-funded researcher invitation to do self-funded research and if the work permit is approved exit and re-enter to begin funded work. Anyone know if that would pose any potential issues with Canadian Immigration?
