Entering the country while the passport is valid for 5 months

Hello! My brother has obtained a Visa that is valid till July 2014. He is planning on traveling to Canada mid March. However, his passport will expire in August 2014. He has heard that he needs to have a passport that will not expire for at least 6 months after his arrival into the country. Is this correct and if so what can he do?

No, not correct for Canada (for the US it is) note that he would be only admitted to the expiry date of his passport.

Thank you. So he will not have any issues with his passport entering Canada in March 2014 given the Visa is valid till July and his passport expires in august? His intention is to stay there for only three weeks.
