Currently in the uk (i a have british passport), i need to get back to canada asap but my pr card is expired.
It seems the quickest way to get back to canada would be to fly to usa and cross through the border with a rental.
Will i have an issue getting a etsa? According to http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/travel-voyage/td-dv-eng.html at the border cbsa will accept a canadian drivers licence and sin card (which i have), is this correct?
Will i have issues in the airport here or in the usa if they know im a pr without a pr card?

Do you meet the PR residency requirement?

Yes, they accept your Canadian DL. But they will probably ask you lots of questions.

Im probably wrong but i thought they can can your passport and it will show up on there system that im a pr.Would any other documents help?

Yes, they will tell you to go to secondary inspection. There, you can show them your passport and explain that your PR card has expired. Or you can just show your expired PR card at the booth.

I guess i might get held up a bit but thats understandable.
My main concern is if the cbp officer will deny me entry since i dont have a return ticket and is worried ill overstay the visa.

You might not be meeting a CBP officer, but a TSA personnel at the US airport. Last time, the TSA personnel didn't even look at my return ticket and just asked the purpose of my trip.
