Enquiry pertaining to Study Visa

Hi

I haven't applied for a Study Visa, yet,which I'm planning to. Secondly, I simply applied with an “Expression of Interest" in the PR category and not for PR Visa as my application was in the pool and not picked up at the time,which I withdrew 6 months later. So do I have to mention a Yes or NO to the question, “if I applied to Canada before for immigration”. Kindly assist ..? ? I also discussed this with a few of my other friends who worked in the embassy and they mentioned that since my application wasn't picked up, yet and it was a mere expression on interest, which I withdrew later, I could go ahead with selecting a No.. kindly assist ?

Thanks for the revert but don't you think If I hide the fact that I tried entering Canada through the PR route, which I later withdrew, the file number will already be there with the Visa office. In light of this, I should ideally mention saying Yes, I applied to enter Canada through the PR route but later withdrew my application .

Moreover, If I hide this and they get to know, this could directly lead to a rejection of a study Visa. Don't you thin so ?
