Hi all.

I am a Malaysian currently working in India. My bf is about to move to Canada ( he got his PR from Family Class Sponsorship ). I am thinking to apply for PR as well to be with him, but knowing that it would be difficult as I do not have any contacts in Canada ( bf is new there, cant help much )

Need help from all seniors here to advise what are the options or types of visa that I can take. Really confuse here. Should I take a student visa since I got a plan to study further my study in MBA and work part time ? Or apply for TRV, look for a job there during my 6 months stay ? Please help..i feel so helpless nowww ~ ???

Your Boyfriend can sponsor you under the Common-Law process of sponsorship. If you establish these factors (atleast for 1 year)

You are a common-law partner—either of the opposite sex or same sex—if:

you have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year in a continuous 12-month period that was not interrupted. (You are allowed short absences for business travel or family reasons, however.)
You will need proof that you and your common-law partner have combined your affairs and set up a household together. This can be in the form of:

joint bank accounts or credit cards
joint ownership of a home
joint residential leases
joint rental receipts
joint utilities (electricity, gas, telephone)
joint management of household expenses
proof of joint purchases, especially for household items or
mail addressed to either person or both people at the same address.

Ask him to PM me and get in touch with me in Canada. Keep your hopes high Sister. Never give up !!

The OP's boyfriend was sponsored under the family class, assume that he was an accompanying dependent. If they were common-law, then his visa was invalid. So the OP will have to go another route.

Thanks for replying. Appreciate that. Too bad we cant consider as common-law as we're not staying together although we've been together for more than 3 years. In that case that options is out i guess.

PMM,
you mentioned that assume he is an accompanying dependant, does that mean even if we get married, I cant apply as Family Class too ? we are currently exploring all the possible ways to be together..=(

Checked for MBA courses in Canada, too bad cant afford, only manage to afford 50% for the total fees ~ :'(

Guess I can try Visitor pass and just go with the flow.. :'(

OMG you are right PMM...never thought of that !! So Sister ColourMie in this case, you cannot disclose that you were in a Common-Law relationship, as it would surmount to mis-representation on his part and hence the PR rendered invalid.

The best way out now: Marriage after he lands.

He can sponsor you via Family Class after you are married.

However he MUST first land in Canada and officially become a PR before you get married (i.e. he must be un-married when he lands).

When u mentioned offficially become PR, do u mean he has to be in Canada for at least 3 years in 5 years period ? I thought that was for Citizenship ? In that case, how to be an OFFICIAL PR ? FYI, he already got his PR visa. Sorry, noob here and didnt get that info from CIC too.

And, y must be be single when he land ? Does it has to do with his Family Class sponsorship ??

Already discuss this issue with bf, now he land in Feb 2011, and I shall be here till he fully settle down. I will apply for Visitor Visa to get in, and from there, just go with the flow ~

It will not be easy to get a visitor visa either. Be mentally prepared and don't be upset if you get a refusal. Persons in your age bracket get a lot of negative decisions. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. When you obtain the affidavit of support for your visit visa, make sure it doesn't come from your BF. Use a friend or a relative.

u means like the letters of invitation ? can I just mentioned my bf is my "FRIEND" in case the immigration ask ?
yeah, already knew that I will face rejection due to my nationality n my age, they might easily think that I am going to stay there forever..=P. Thanks for your advise ~

No, that may affect your future sponsorship. Keep him out of picture.
