I need to do IELTS to become a licensed immigration consultant and I am an English native speaker. Do you think I need to study or would my probability of passing be higher as its my first language, as I consider myself to be fairly intellectual so would like to think I can read, listen, write and talk my native language lol.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You should familiarize yourself with how the exam is structured, how much time you have for each section, how points are awarded / deducted, etc. There have been a couple of stories here in the past of native speakers who didn't get great scores because they walked in blind. Like any test, it pays to understand how it works.

The advantage for native speakers is that it takes us less time to get ready for the test. But you should still go through the practice tests a couple of times so you can get used to the format and the amount of time it takes to complete each section. The way the test is set up is very different than everyday English conversation, reading, writing, and listening. It's more compact and fast pace - so it takes a little time to get use to them.

Hi,

Thanks guys. Yes I checked out the tests online and indeed it's definitely not a test just to see if you can speak English. It is much more about grammar, ideas, IQ, processing speed, imagination and ability to perform under pressure.

I can only imagine trying to do this if English wasn't my native language.

What would you advise is the one area that could be a potential trip? I imagine trying to listen and get all the marks. If anyone is like me after 5 minutes I would be tuning out lol.

For native speaker it does not matter if he gives CELPIP or IELTS. It will be fine
