I have just become eligible to apply for citizenship and have all the paperwork complete and plan to submit this weekend (I missed out on the lower fees but hope to make it before the new rules...).

I am from Ireland and have high school and a degree education through English so presumed I don't need to do an English language test but I'm seeing mixed comments on here..

Even though my transcript are in English it doesn't actually say it was done through English.

Does anyone have any experience with providing proof? How did it go. I also work in local government which wouldn't be possible without a high level of English.

Should I do the exam? Which one? I don't want to miss the changes or spend extra money for no reason...

Tricky. The document checklist on CIC's homepage explicitly states that the transcripts have to say that the secondary school programme was taught in English or French. Are there unilingual Gaelic secondary schools in Ireland and if so, would the transcript explicitly state that a person's schooling was in Gaelic?

Yes there are although I'm pretty sure there are no degree's offered through Irish. The problem there is that my degree actually has language in both English and Irish on it as a formality so that may cause more confusion!

There ha got to be a better way of doing that than have native English speakers listen to a tape...

Yea, so if you can't prove that your high school wasn't done in Gaelic I don't think you can use your diploma as proof. Unless you can get an additional transcript from your school stating that the course load was all in English.

Don't worry too much. Just send a photocopy of either your high school or college diploma. I did it and they have already started processing my application.
