Hi All,

Should we provide employment reference letter for spouse when spouse doesn't have any Canadian work experience? In the express entry profile and in the CIC profile, we had mentioned spouse employment details. However, we are unable to get the employment reference letters. If we don't provide the reference letters for spouse, will it cause any complications?

Did you already get an ITA? If no, just delete the experience for spouse from the work experence section.

If yes, best thing to do would be to decline the ITA, update the profile as mentioned above. if you have enough points, you will get an ITA in the next draw.

Last option is to not include the letter and explain in the LOE that since you have not claimed any points for spouse, you are not attaching the letter.

Thankyou for your response @nitingpt09 .
I have received ITA. As per the below URL, People who should submit the work experience document is listed as:

Individuals who must submit this documentation
  • The principal applicant
  • Their spouse or common-law partner (if work experience in Canada is claimed)
Could you please have a look at this page?

I have looked at this page. I went through the process myself 2 years ago. I am a PR and have been living in Canada for 1.5 years now. Most people dont mention their spouse's work expereince at all if there are no points for it. But since you have already mentioned, and it is not possible to obtain experience letter from the employer than the only 2 choices you have are mentioned above.

These days there is a lot of delay in processing, and it really depends on the officer working on your file on how they interpret the rules. IRCC's website says that you only need to upload biometric pages and pages with stamps of your passport but I have seen people getting rejected for not uploading each and every page of their passport.

Having said that, go ahead and explain in your letter that you tried but it was not possible to get the letters for spouse and you are not uploading anything since no points are claimed. But if needed, you can come up with some proof of work experience for spouse such as bank statement showing salary credits or income tax return etc.

Thankyou @nitingpt09 .
I have received ITA but not submitted the permanent residency application yet. In this case, can we delete the employment history of spouse, which got auto populated in the permanent residency application based on the details provided in EE profile? If we do so, will it cause complications as there is a mismatch between the spouse employment details in the EE profile and the permanent residency application though it does not impact my scores?
