Montreal, November 21, 2011 - The Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities (MICC), Kathleen Weil, vice president and executive committee of the City of Montreal and responsible for economic development, Richard Deschamps, have Jobs unveiled the project NEXUS, choose to invest, succeed in the presence of
Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Montreal InVivo, sponsoring organization of the project, Dr. Jacques Gagné, and Mrs. Mary Deros, member of executive committee the City and responsible for relations with communities from diverse backgrounds. This project is part of Montreal Challenge which involves various partners in the employment integration of immigrants from the island of Montreal.

"The aerospace, information technology, life sciences and health technology are sectors of the economy facing a scarcity of labor. To promote such a dynamic and future of companies in these sectors, we have workers from all over the world who are young, qualified and who speak French. Use a project like Nexus, choosing, investing, success builds bridges between employers and immigrant workers. This is a unique partnership between three innovative sectors that can join a pool of talent present in Montreal! "Said Minister Kathleen Weil.

"The City of Montreal is pleased to work with the MICC and industry representatives from three innovative sectors for multi-sectoral program that will provide support and referrals to businesses to help them meet the challenges of recruiting skilled workers from immigrant . We know our business and, in particular those innovative sectors, will have to find solutions to the predicted shortage of skilled and employable immediately. The immigrant workers have been identified as a major source of growth for Montreal, "said Deschamps.

NEXUS employment in brief

Employment NEXUS is a multi-sectoral project that offers support and references to Montreal businesses to better meet the challenges of recruiting skilled workers from immigrant families. The three targeted areas are aerospace, information technology and life sciences and health technologies.

Many practical tools and useful information will be available to companies and SMEs, including: a website like blog, individualized business meetings, a document of type "toolbox" for employers, training activities and employment forums.

The project proponent is Montreal InVivo, a nonprofit organization that identifies the cluster of life sciences and health technologies. Several other partners are involved in the project: industrial clusters and AeroMontréal TechnoMontréal; sectoral committees for labor and TechnoCompétences PharmabioDéveloppement and the Center for adaptation of the aerospace workforce in Quebec and the Adjustment Committee of the workforce - Immigrants, the city of Montreal and the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

Challenge Montreal: a laboratory for innovative projects

launched in 2009 as part of measures to strengthen Québec's action in the integration of newcomers, Montreal Challenge aims to encourage the creation and implementation of development projects and innovative facilitate access to employment for people with an immigrant background. Montreal Challenge is an initiative of the Department of Immigration and Cultural Communities in partnership with Emploi-Québec and the Regional Conference of Elected Montreal.
