Hi guys, how important is the employment status when it comes to making me eligible to be a sponsor? I am currently overseas where I met my partner. I am not working here but I'm looking to sponsor him so that we can both move to Canada. I'm a Canadian citizen of course. Appreciate the help!

There is no minimum income requirement on sponsoring your spouse, but you are expected to show that you are not on welfare or in default, so being employed helps. Would unemployment be reason to rejection? Most likely not if that's the only issue with your application.brianlsun said:
As you are abroad, i would concentrate on showing some proof that you do intend to come back to Canada and seek employment here.
