I have been married for more than 5 years and now I am filing for divorce to get separated from my husband.

Simultaneously, I am planning to apply for Canadian PR. I have not even attempted IELTS yet. Before I register for IELTS examinations and apply PR, I want to know if there is a clause in Canadian immigration law for a person like me to apply for PR as a 'single' or 'in process of separation', before I get the status of separated/divorced?

Your PR application should be fine. The divorce will not affect anything. you should apply as a single applicant i.e. spouse not accompanying. while submitting your e-apr you can mention you divorce status (final or pending) . your application will not be rejected on this basis, however it could be delayed depending on the processing officer as they would ideally like the divorce proceedings to be complete before granting you a PR (especially if its in a court outside canada) .. nonetheless you should atleast start your prep (ielts, eca) as these take time...all the best..
