Hello Everyone,

I am eligible to apply for Citizenship and am starting the process now.

I also applied for my wife's PR (got married recently) inland 10 days ago.

I heard from one of my friends that if I apply for citizenship now, my wife's PR application will be delayed and might take longer than usual.

Is that right? And if yes, do I wait until her PR is received for me to apply for citizenship?

Thanks,
Sriram

No, that is not true. Your citizenship application should have no impact on your sponsorship application. I speak from experience. I sponsored my wife in January 2013 while I was a PR. While the sponsorship was in progress, I applied for citizenship in April 2013. So I had both a citizenship application and a sponsorship application being processed in parallel. My wife received COPR in August 2013, She landed as PR in October 2013. I had my oath ceremony and became a citizen on December 2013. The times for both sponsorship and citizenship were standard timelines.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. Yes, it totally makes sense to me.

My advice would be to stop relying on this friend's advice on such matters. His advice does not make sense. All the best for both of your applications.
Hey amitdi, thanks for your response. I understand I can't trust friend's advise and this is the reason I am reaching out in this forum which has way many experts.
