Hi,

I have done one year course in Canada, Ontario. My study permit will expire on Sept 30, 2016. I have two options either apply for another 1 year course or to apply for work permit. If i do one more course of 1 year then i will get 3 year work permit but if i apply for work permit now then i will get 1 year work permit. I am currently doing internship which will end next month. But my employers wants to hire me on 1 year contract. I want to work with them and don't want to study one year more. But my main aim is PR. So, my questions are:

Can i get PR after one year course and one year job contract ?
What are other possible ways to get PR after one year study?
Do i need contract of 2 or more years ?

Unfortunately it's really impossible to answer your question. Working a year in Canada doesn't necessarily qualify you to apply for PR - and even if you qualify to apply, it this doesn't necessarily mean you will be accepted / selected. Based on how general your question is, I would recommend that you spend more time researching Canada's immigration programs (or hire an immigration lawyer to assist you). If you plan to do the research yourself, start by looking at the Canadian Experience Class program and determine how many points you would have under the Express Entry system after a year of work experience in Canada. Note that you currently must have more than 480 points to be selected and the points have never dropped below 450. You should also look into the Provincial Nomination Programs.

Take another 1 year course straight away so that you can qualify for a 3 year PGWP otherwise it will be dificult to get one year Canadian work experience with just a one year PGWP given you actually need find a job first.

Hey! How’s everything? Actually, I am planning to study 1 year too and got my LOA already. I am so confused now if I have to pursue this 1 year or find a 2 year course. Any updates from you would be ao much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I also have the same question. Is it practical to take a one year diploma in canada and one year work afterwards to apply for PR? Or, should we take a two year diploma which enables us for 3 year work permit?

I would appreciate your advice in advance.

The question has already been answered above. Low chance of PR with just a one year PGWP. Study for two years so that you qualify for a three year PGWP.
