EI on Spouse sponsership

Hi

I wish to know some information.I am on spouse sponsership.I came to Canada 16 months back.We are living seperated for last 14 months.I am not in talking terms with my spouse.I had a job for 6 months.I lost my job 3 months back & I am now unemployed for 3 months.
If I apply for my EI will that affect my spouse since I am on spouse sponsership.I know that if I apply for social welfare it will affect her but I am not sure whether its same for EI because I payed my EI premium.I am in big financial crisis but dont want my spouse to get into trouble for not providing me support.

If anybody sure about it please let me Know.

Whether or not my spouse will be in trouble if I apply for EI.

No, EI is not welfare so your spouse will not have a problem. It's more like an insurance. You paid into it and you are entitled to coverage when you lose your job.
