ok thanks
sorry I need help again.

So I have a bachelor's of Commerce which is evaluated by WES as 4 years Canadian bachelors degree.

Now I am planning on completing a certificate or diploma for 1 year or 8 months in canada, however some people are suggesting me that I can not claim points for 2 or more certificates .
Reason - Most 1 year certificate or diploma's are done post 12th grade in canada.

I am being told to do a post baccalaureate diploma or advanced diploma which are having a requirement of a minimum degree with duration ranging 2 to 3 years.

I am confused if this is true ? because in express entry it asks to entry the highest degree first.
Hi again,

Could you please quote the sources who suggested we can't claim points?

I have been submitting my EE profile with my info, and it finds me ineligible in the pool. i don't know if it's a technical glitch as some people are saying, or I'm missing something here.)

Let m eknow too if you hear updates or any info.

Best,
Anir

So the people who say I cant claim points for 2 or more certificates are the immigration consultants with whom I haven't signed up yet. They say the PG diploma should be clearly a post baccalaureate diploma or advanced diploma (eligible to be done after a degree)
However when i read the points written on cic website it says even a certificate which is done for 8 months full time qualifies, the question is should the certificate or diploma be an post baccalaureate diploma or advanced diploma only since the candidate has done a degree first in life.

Hmm, I went through a similar experience. Here's my conclusion. Because mine (and yours) is a rather infrequent case, they're being confused. Mostly, people recommend a 2 year course because:
  • it gives you 2-3 years PGWP.
  • it helps you earn extra 5 adaptability points on FSW grid.
  • it gives you extra CRS score too.
So whenever you talk about a one year course, people impulsively say it won't be helpful in your PR.
Then i met a consultant, who analyzed my case and told me that for the points under the component 'Two or more certificates, diploma or degree', a one-year certificate should be enough. People here in the forum also suggested this. So the conclusion is, a one-year course won't give you the benefits I quoted above in bullet points, but it'll give you the points wherever 'Two or more certificates, diploma or degree' is mentioned.

Seniors (@DelPiero07 @ContactFront @ishq74 ) would be the best people to comment on this, I think.

Hello people, (FSW = Federal Skilled Worker EE = Express Entry CRS=Compreh. ranking system)

I am in kind of a corner case situation. I am trying to be as elaborative as possible here. I'd highly appreciate the help offered, and owe you a coffee if I reach a solution to this :/

I am in Toronto doing my graduate certificate at George Brown College for one year right now, and following are my details :

(To avoid the confusion, I state that here I am talking about the six-selection-factors grid of FSW category, and not the express entry points.)

My FSW points are 66/100 (need 67 to pass and be eligible for EE pool). Out of 66, I have 21 points under education category as I only have a Bachelors degree right now. Once my course completes, I intend to get one more point by securing 22 points under "Two or more Canadian post-secondary degrees or diplomas or equal (at least one must be for a program of at least three years)".

The problem is I keep hearing graduate certificate doesn't give you any point. How true is this ? If not, what options do I have ?

P.S. : (My present points are 66/100 in FSW and 413 in Express Entry points. My plan was to make them 67/100 in FSW and 460 in Express Entry as soon as the course completes. This was according to a thorough calculation by me, on the canada immigration website)

Further details :
The below pic is what FSW six-selection-factors page looks like. i agree that it doesn't mention certificate anywhere, it only lists diploma. (see next comment in this thread for pic)

But the Express Entry page and Come-to-Canada testing tool clearly mentions diploma means a certificate too (refer the image below) ((see next comment in this thread for pic))

Bottomline being, I want the graduate certificate to give me one point in FSW grid so I qualify for Express Entry pool, and apply for PR with 460 CRS points.

Please helpppp!

Hi Aniruddha,
Hope you are doing well!

I have a similar case as yours. I have done my four years B.tech degree from India which is equivalent to a 4 year course in Canada. Also, I have done a 1 year Diploma course from Canada. I have an experience of around 1.5 years and scored maximum points in IELTS, maximum points for the age as well. I am also confused if I qualify for the for the Express Entry Pool with 67 points or not.

Were you successful in getting into the pool?
Did you choose 2 or more certificates option?

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks!

Hey,
Yes, you qualify for FSW as soon as you have your WES evaluation result for Indian degree. Also, you'll need the reference letter from the company in India (I am assuming atleast 1 year of total 1.5 is continuous in an NOC 0, A or B)

Best,
Anir

Hey,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have been working in India for the past 1.5 year in the same company under NOC B.

Hi guys! I am an aspirant planning for a 1 year Diploma or Certification course in Supply Chain Management. I have a doubt in regards to PGWP which expires after 1 year and in express entry for us to claim Canadian work experience points the year should be completed in full. So keeping in mind the above can we apply for an extension after PGWP of 1 year or what are the other options to take up. Please correct me if I am wrong somewhere in understanding the procedure. Do let me know about this course and prospects in future.

Many Thanks
