Education requirement for CEC?

Hello!

I graduated on May 2013 with Finance/Economics degree and but have been working as a junior web developer for 10 months under my PGWP(expiring April 2016). I am hoping to apply for PR soon and wondering if it is a big issue that I am a web dev. despite the fact that I am a Finance graduate.

Backstory: I realized that working in a finance job wasn't for me and I truly enjoyed front-end development instead. So I went to take a course at a private school to learn web development that gave me skills to land my current job at a great digital marketing agency. The school I studied at didn't require me a student permit because the program was only 3 months and the school itself isn't in the designated learning institute list (cic.gc[at]ca/english/study/study-who.asp)

So, is having a different career and education background a major factor when applying for CEC? If yes, what are other options to apply for PR?

Thank you!

Nope, not an issue, except for regulated occupations (doctors, nurses, engineers...). Good luck!

Great to hear this! Thank you :)

For the past few months I was referring to the education Education requirements for WEB DESIGNERS AND DEVELOPERS (NOC 2175) at jobbank.gc.ca/occupation_search-eng.do:

Employment requirements are prerequisites generally needed to enter an occupation.

- A bachelor's degree, usually in computer science, communications or business
or
- Completion of a college program in computer science, graphic arts, Web design or business is required.
- Experience as a computer programmer or graphic designer is usually required.

I thought this was a guideline to follow when applying for PR. Am I looking at the wrong place then?

You need to look at the lead statement and the main duties...
