Hi,

Im applying for the Canadian citizenship, and one of the documents checklist is:

- Photocopy of education records for children under the age of 18 and in the last 4 years.

My daughter is 4.5 and she recently started going to school "JK", so I need to request a letter from her school that she is attending school ? would that be enough ?

Thanks

If you are in Toronto and your kids are TDSB students,

1) Get the school record - ask for Index which has enrollment information with a photo of your kid. TDSB school office staff are used to and issue without any hesitation. Some times on the spot but if they are busy you will have to pick up later/next day.

If you are mailing your application in or after November, the first report cards may be home by then. You can attach a copy of that too.

2) Copy of report cards - which shows the absences and late records on the top right hand side of the page. Report cards sent home usually end of every term. So you will have it ready, make copies and attach.

Sample is below: The one on right - Ontario Elementary Provincial Report Card

If you are not in TDSB look for some thing equivalent or similar. If not available for some reason a letter from institution may be sufficient.

Note: Student identification cards and letters from institutions, teachers, principals are not accepted as official education records. For example, an official transcript from an educational institution would satisfy this requirement. A letter from an institution is only acceptable in the following two circumstances:
Child has recently enrolled in school and a report card has not yet been issued

Child is being homeschooled (see below)

Format: Clear and legible photocopy

TDSB index is printed on the date of request, so includes attendance/absence information up-to-date.
University transcripts also contains dates of attendance.

What CIC looking for is evidences for your presence/absence in Canada. So attaching transcript/index will cover the period well in my opinion.
