Hi there,

I am applying for a work permit in Canada. My employer received an unnamed lmo for my position. My name was sent to them for a named LMO. I was wondering if they will ask for my education certificates as they are back in my home country and my family members at home cannot find my certificates...

My question is that will they ask me for the educational certificates?

if the job requires a college degree or a certification to perform then immigration will probably require you to present those documents when you apply for the work permit.

If you are just going to take your employment contract and an approved LMO to the Port of Entry, expect them to ask for proof that you can perform the job that you have been hired to do.

If you have been hired to be a computer programmer or a physician or any other obviously skilled professsion you will definately have to prove that you have the education.

A few years ago I transferred from Brazil to Toronto.
My certificates were all in storage in Australia, and I knew I had to provide proof of education at the Port of Entry for my work permit so I contacted the college I graduated from beforehand and asked them to provide an official letter confirming my qualifications. This, along with an explanation, was enough to satisfy the Immigration officer.

If you do it this way, make sure you have the original letter from the school - the more official looking the better!
You might struggle if all you have is a scrappy photocopy with no signatures/watermarks/seals/letterheads etc.

I am actually working in Canada under an open work permit which is expiring in March 2012. Even if I am applying in Canada will they need this? I tried to contact the institution, but no one is taking the call or replying to my emails... What should I do? I think the college is now closed... Am I in big trouble?

Also my job is as a recruiter - NOC Skill level B - 1221. It says it normally requires a college certificate/ diploma. And I got a 1 year diploma in Business Administration ( Which my parents can't find).. Will this all be an issue?

Is there some kind of education board that was in charge of the school? Surely someone somewhere will have a record of your graduation.

I've been through the LMO process a couple of times and they usually require your qualifications as part of the LMO process.
Yours is different because you weren't named on the LMO application, so I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted proof of your qualifications now you are named on it.

Not sure though, maybe one of the experts in here can help...

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt answer. I have finally received mu certificates, but now, I found out that my previous educational institution is now closed in UK. And, I can't find any sort of information on how to get a proof if the institution was ever existed. I got my study visa in Uk based on the College and education in 2008.

Is this going to be an issue? Please advise.
