HI,
I am holding a four year diploma in electrical engineering from India and have 15 years of work experience in the marine Industry. Can I apply for PR in the FSW cat INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN. I have been told by friends that only ITI holders can apply for it and the diploma holders are not eligible. Kindly Clarify.

Regards

You would be considered an Electrical Engineer not an electrician as it is unlikely that you served an apprenticeship as an electrician.

Hello,

I have a friend who arrived in Canada bringing his degree of BAchelor of Schience in Electronics Engineering from the Philippines. The degree was not fully accredited in Canada but after the assessment by Canadian authorities his educational qualification qualifies him to take the electronics technician licensure exam. He was able to pass the exam and until now he works as an electronic technician without him having to undergo any updates with his education.

If you have experience, duties and responsibilities, like what industrial electricians do as described in the NOC job description, then I would suggest apply for FSW under industrial electrician category. CIC will focus on the duties and responsibilities of your work experience if it does match with the duties of the category you are applying to.

Electrical Engineers can do the jobs done by any electrical technicians. But not otherwise. So education wise you qualify to apply as an industrial electricians but you have to make sure that your experience has duties and responsibilities that matches to what NOC has listed.

Regards.

One more thing. I am an electrical engineer too from Philippines. Bachelors degree in Engineering in the Philippines is a five year degree course. Our immigration application in under process but my wife who is a nurse is the principal applicant. I am planning to take industrial electrician licensure exam once I will arrive in Canada, while pursuing for the accreditation of my Engineering degree. I was once an industrial electrician before I got the position as Electrical Engineer supervising industrial electricians for 15 years.
