Could you please post your time line here?

I have read that there were backlogs at the Edmonton office in 2010. I am trying to estimate how long it will take to have the citizenship test scheduled after applying for citizenship.
I could apply next month (middle/late August) but I have a trip scheduled in April, 2012. I am afraid that I will get a test date while I will be away (I will be abroad for 5 weeks). I really do not want to postpone the test! I was thinking of applying a couple of month later but I am not sure how long I should postpone the application.
