It took me a month to figure this out, but while every form CIC provides says you have to write England/Scotland/Wales/NI etc as your place of birth, ECAS lists it as UK and colonies. So not confusing AT ALL. /s

ECAs where you get your updates? The drop down I get has 'England' as an option when I login.

I tried with "england" for a month and it never worked, so today i found UK and it did. Tbh this is typical of CIC, they probably assign you randomly as "english" or UK based on flipping a coin.
