Hello
I'm in the process of doing the paperwork for my wife's PRV. We tried to get her a TRV but they said I had to submit the PRV first and when I get accepted as a sponsor they would issue her TRV. So this is my plan because it would allow us to be togethor alot quicker then waiting the entire time for PRV. I have a few questions concerning this:

1. What should I put for her mailing address? Can I put my address down because if she's living with me here then obviously we dont want any paperwork going to her place in Thailand.

2. a) After we got married for whatever reason I thought she had to use her old passport with her old last name, so when I applied for the TRV we used her maiden name. Are we gonna have to apply for a new TRV or when I'm appoved for sponorship do you think she could just show the embassy in Bangkok a photocopy of the old passport and sponsorship acceptance letter and then they would issue the TRV under her new name?
(hopefully my writing isn't confusing you too much)

b) We also did the medical examination under her maiden name. I dont think it should be a promblem because on the copy they gave me it says: First Name, Maiden Name ( Last Name ). IE they put my last name in brackets after her maiden name. However we had to give the doctors office photocopies of her passport, which was her old passport. Do you think I could just write them an explanation of this and give it with the application.

3. In the region specific guide it say that citizens of Thailand need a request from the high commision in order to get a Police certificate. They say that a letter would be sent at a later date. The officer in the Bangkok embassy told me we could get the police certificate before submiting the application. So thats what we did, we used the form in the Apendix D and went to the police headquarters, did everything and now we just need to wait till July 25 when she can go back and get it. I'm in Canada now and I want to submit his application as soon as possible. Would it be possible to send the police certificate at a later date. I cant see this as being a problem because in the guide itself it says to wait. Anyone else have any experience with this?

4. I got back to Canada last week, and now I dont have a job. Ive read that I dont need to have one to be approved for sponsorship. Do I need to fill out the financial evaluation form? I'm 21 and dont have alot of money in the bank right now because Ive been in Thailand for 5 months this year. The thing is I'll probably have a job already next week but I want to get everything done ASAP. Do you think it will be ok, or will the CIC officer see that Im 21 years old, unemployed and decide to not give me the sponsorship? If need be I'll wait a week before I start working again. Also I remember somewhere it asks for proof of income for the last year. Does that mean starting from now, or just the last tax year. Is this different then when they ask you to give the CRA notice of assessment? What can I use as proof?

Re: Dual intent question and a few others.

Ok so I think ive come up with the answer for most of these questions.
1. I'm going to appoint myself as a representative for my wife so that everything gets mailed to me.
2. a) I'll just have to talk to the people in BKK when the time comes
b) I'm including a photocopy of her old passport and note explaining the situation. Hopefully this should suffice.
3. I'll send them the police certificate when they ask for it.
4. I now realize that theres no job / financial requirment for spousal applications.

Am I correct on all of these? Anyone want to throw in their 2 cents?

You've got most of it, but not entirely:

1) you don't have to appoint yourself her representative to have her mail come to your Canadian address. You can use any mailing address you want for your wife - yours in Canada is permissible BUT, if you're filing an outland application, you cannot use the Canadian address as her residential address unless she was given temporary status in Canada for at least a year on her last entry. If you're filing inland, you can use the Canadian address, but you need to remember that you have to keep her temporary status current. Simply having a PR application in process does not give her legal right to be in Canada past the period authorized her on her original entry.

2) All applications (including the PRV) have to be completed with the name that is on her current passport - even if that's her maiden name - and that is the name they will issue the visa in. If you want her visas issued with her married name, she will have to apply for a name change to her passport first.

3) Nothing wrong with waiting for the Embassy to request the criminal clearance - especially if that's how they normally accomplish this.

4) There is no minimum income requirement for spousal sponsors - but you still have to show them that you have a job or other means to support the person you are sponsoring. If you've not filed taxes recently, you won't have an Option C from CRA - you can submit your most recent tax assessment forms (or equivalent) from a job you held out of country. You need to indicate your net income for the twelve months previous to your application, and you need to provide a letter from your employer stating how long you've been employed with them and your current salary.

Cool, Thanks for the reply. Just to clear a few things up.

1. Alright Im going to do that then, and just scrap the form for representative.

2. The thing I'm most concerned of is if they are going to honor the Medical Report that has her maiden name on it, from her previous passport, when her new / current passport has my last name on it. The doctor actually put both family names on the form (mine in brackets after her maiden name) so I can't see it being a problem. I wrote them a note explaing the situation and attached it to the medical report along with a photocopy of her old passport (maiden name).

3. No problem because she already Fedexed the police certifiacate to me, it will be here tommorow.

4. No problem I started work already, just waiting for these idiots to give me the letter. Been a week now and they havent given me one so Im just gonna type something up and give it to my super to sign tommorow incase they didnt make one.

One other quick quesiton. Ive heard it can take like 3 weeks for Singapore to mail something to Canada and thats what they always do just to request more information. Any way I could atach a note telling them to use a courier and I would pay the COD?
