Hello everyone,

Hoping to find some help here.

I'm a dual citizen (Canadian - Egyptian) planning on getting married to my fiancé next month in Egypt. I believe ( I could be mistaken) that it is a lot easier to get married as 2 Egyptians as opposed to an Egyptian marrying a foreigner (canadian) in terms of paper work in Egypt. If we do get married as 2 Egyptians and have the legal document certified and translated and stamped from all the necessary authorities for the marriage (including the canadian consulate in Egypt) to be legally recognized in canada and then use the certified document in our sponsorship application, would that be ok? Or is there somewhere where it says that if one of the spouses is Canadian and applying to sponsor his/her spouse as a Canadian citizen (not pr) that the legal civil marriage has to be initiated and completed as a Canadian and not the other nationality?

Appreciate all your thoughts, and thanks in advance

The only requirement that I have read of on the CIC web-site is that the marriage must be "legally recognized" in the jurisdiction within which it was performed . . . in your case, Egypt. You should be fine with that.

That's what I thought as well. My only concern would be how and how long they would go about trying to confirm that the person named on the marriage certificate (non-canadian id) is the same person applying for sponsorship (canadian citizen).

Hi, I'm living the same situation and like you I'm worried about the name difference between my Canadian passport and Egyptian.

What happened with you, did u finally got married as an Egyptian ? Did u have issues to recognize it in Canada ? What did u do abt the name diff ?

Thanks
