Driving to CAN: Car questions

Hi All,

I am planning to drive from USA to CAN.
I have car loan, so I dont own that car.
My plan is to land and stay for 2-3 months and come back.


1. Since I dont own that car(it is on loan), do I have to get any NOC document from Loan company?
2. Will there be a problem at the border if i dnt carry a document?
3. My insurance company is fine with it, same insurance applies in CANADA too.
4. Can I tell at Canada border that I will stay here for 3 months and go back to USA?

i will say talk to your loan company, its all depends on how the agreement is written, if there is any clause or not, its better to get the proper paper work both from your insurance company and loan company clearly mentioning that they are ok with you moving to Canada, as u r coming as PR and not visitor, its hard to prove that you will go back, once u enter Canada border, u may not go back logically, irrespective of what your personl plans are, so speak to loan company and your insurance company before bringing that car in Canada, also you may need to find out if you need to pay any road tax or registration tax here in Canada as your car is not a rental car

We had an auto loan on our vehicle when we drove up. It wasn't an issue - they didn't ask to see the title.

Our insurance company issued us a special insurance card that said it was valid in Canada, too. As long as we were just visiting, it was fine.

Once we tried to stay, it became rather difficult. We were told as students we could keep our insurance, but that required a letter the insurance company wouldn't do. We couldn't register with the insurance companies here, because we couldn't get the title, because there was a loan. We had to pay our car off to register it in Canada.

Thing is, I asked my loan union that I want to travel to Canada on a business trip and will be back in short time.
THey said, as per loan agreement car should not be taken out of the country

I am planning to sell this car and take a rental car now

You may also be able to refinance your loan with a company that doesn't mind so much.
